I'd like to extend a very warm welcome to you to the "Single/Social" Meetup
Group!

The location for our Meetup is La Fiamma (Italian restaurant) - 682
Warrigal Rd, East Malvern (just south of Waverly Rd): fairly central to the population
spread of Melbourne.

It's on EVERY Wednesday night of EVERY week at 7 pm without fail.

Do not be concerned if numbers look low (on the Meetup site) - this group
is combined with our social club "The Dining and Activity Network"

We usually get between 10 and 20 people along
- and everyone is generally very friendly.

The social club itself - http://www.danwk.com - co-ordinates
10-15 social events/week ALL OVER Melbourne: restaurants, theatre, parties,
films, musicals, dancing, sporting activities etc. etc... (most events
tend to be 5-15 people).

It's a great way to get out and about in Melbourne to "DO STUFF" and "MEET
PEOPLE"! in big and small groups.

Most people come by themselves , and mix in well (there are
some "couples" as well as "singles" - as it is a "social" club ). Some
people are well-established, some are relatively recent, some are brand
new. Some people come occasionally, and some come more often. The general
age range is 40's and 50's. (But with some 30's and some
early-ish 60's
There is plenty of FREE parking in a big carpark right next door.

For your first occasion, try to arrange to arrive 15 minutes early
(6.45pm) - traffic and other problems can delay you. It's quite common to
be a trifle nervous at the start, just take a few deep breaths and "go for
it". (please give me a call anytime convenient to you as well as booking
in here - Greg 0411 961 338)

Things get going at 7 pm with "drinks" in the bar area of the restaurant
(to the right as you walk in)- just ask here for the "social club" - just ask for me there. The first half hour or so is the time for "icebreaking chitchat"
and mingling. Do "push yourself" a little to move around and say hello to
some different people - it's worth the effort. Everyone is quite friendly.

I know it may seem trite, but the best topics of conversation are just
stuff like: "the weather today (and tomorrow)", "where you live
(difficulties getting there - traffic, or public transport etc.)", "what
do you do for a living?", "hobbies" etc. etc. Just "go with the flow" -
listening with interest as well as talking.

"Drinks" is followed by a meal of a range of Italian food at
reasonable prices. Just be flexible about finding a seat and table to sit
at. Because of the varying numbers from week to week some
ingenuity has to be applied to seating arrangements. Sometimes tables and
chairs need to be physically moved around.

This is the time for getting to know the people seated around you on a
more intimate level. Again, "icebreaking chitchat" is best. Study the
menu, make your selections and put in your order. Mention any other
restaurants you've been to - other cuisines you like. Make sure you ask
about the activities and events in the social club (DAAN). It's a good
idea to remember to pack cash before you come (especially smaller notes
and gold coins) to help at the finish of the meal with paying the bill.

Once you have rung me to ask about it just once before your first event,
there's no need to formally "book in" each week. Just turn up (7.00 pm)
and say hello. Any problems? Contact me anytime (9am-10 pm) on 0411 961
338.

Cheers,

P.S. The Social Club charges $148 for 12 months membership...
but you can
go to a MONTHS worth of events for FREE before officially joining.

P.P.S. Although most people come on their own, you are
welcome if you want
to bring a friend (most people don't). But, once you mix in at the drinks
session and sit down for a meal, we do encourage you to split up; that way you tend to mix in more.

P.P.S. If you're coming by public transport, there is also
a railway
station - Holmesglen - just 10 minutes walk from the north along Warrigal
Rd over the little hill and down past "Red Rooster". Just look for the "La
Fiamma" sign, once you get past Waverly Rd.

Put the search term "La Fiamma" into the Google Maps search
link (on
Google) to pinpoint the location of the restaurant for even greater accuracy.
