I won a free happy hour, and you’re all invited! If you’re looking for a bit of drinking and dancing on the cheap, come out this Friday to Funk it up with us! Just arrive between 8PM and 10PM and mention my name (Kenya Matthews) to the host to have your cover charge waived! They will then give you a wristband so you can drink for FREE from 9PM to 10PM. After 10PM, you can pay $10 to extend your drinking for another hour, or you can just keep partying and dancing for free. Funk is open until 4AM, and there are also a ton of bars and late night joints in that area, so there’s no shortage of stuff to do. Party as late as you like. Hope to see you there!

Cross-posting for a friend of mine... Myrna's posting, from over on Free & Cheap: Hi Everyone, Are you interested in seeing this performance? If so, please purchase your ticket ahead of time through the following link or please give them a call and do so. Tickets are only $12 each! NachtKabarett at Gorilla Tango I thought it would be a good idea to see this with a group AND to make this a meetup at my place beforehand just so we can mingle, get to know one another a bit, then walk to the theater together since it's so close. We should all meet at my place at around 8:30pm, then walk over to the theater at 9:30pm. The performance begins at 10:00pm. This is the 2nd time that I'll be hosting a meetup before going to Gorilla Tango Theater. We had a great time the first time around! All of the shows that I've seen at GTT have been great! I'm sure this performance will be a fun time as well! This is from GTT's website describing the performance: NachtKabarett From the wicked minds that brought you Sin and Tonic and Annoyance, comes NachtKabarett, a Cabaret/Burlesque extravaganza. Join this sexy ensemble of performers as they bring you down to their world of debauchery, depravation, satirica l comedy and sexy dances. As the NachtKabarett performers try to hide from the looming espectre of Nazism, you will experience with them their dark, sweaty and funny acts of depraved comedy. With original songs and dances. Directed by Michael Natoli Produced by Michael Natoli. Show Rating - R Since we will be meeting at a private residence, I will only give out the address by Thursday, July 17 only to those that have RSVP'd "Yes" AND who have purchased a theater ticket. Thank you and I hope to see you on Friday, July 18! Myrna

Let's have a happy hour (or two, or three!) to meet and get to know as many old and new members as possible! Encore Liquid Lounge is right in the loop, only a couple blocks from pretty much every L line. They have delicious drinks and yummy appetizers (and even some dinner items if you like.) I'll be there at 6:00; feel free to come any time after that, within reason. If anyone wants to have a serious dinner afterwards, Encore is right next door to 312, which is fabulous. Reviews from Citysearch I'll send out my cell number closer to the date for those who RSVP yes. Hope you can make it; heck, if everyone comes RSVPs we may be able to have the whole place to ourselves! BTW, I'm asking for a $1 "donation" to help me pay the monthly Meetup fee; strictly optional but greatly appreciated.

Hey, everyone! I've posted this event before, and everyone's had a blast. This time, extra treat- I'm playing in the show! That's right. It's The Sickest F*cking Stories I Ever Heard, and the producer, a friend of mine, has hooked us up with some nice discounts. Details below. SFS is a terrifically dirty piece of theatre. It is not for the faint of heart or the easily offended. Consider yourself warned. It's a poker game, peopled with some of the most interesting characters you'll ever meet, simply playing cards and sharing dirty personal stories. They can be gross, heart-breaking, mind-blowing, and bizarre. I've seen this show a couple times, and it is an absolute blast. And on July 5th: I'll be in the show, sharing all my dirtiest stories. Most involve sex, liquor, vomiting, or some kind of law-breaking. Come and check it out! And I'd be remiss if I didn't let you know that Happy The Human Pincushion will also be playing. The man sticks needles through himself. I mean... come on. I'd post a photo, but it's kinda gross. And by gross, I mean AWESOME. Hope you can join us for some twisted theatre, and come hang out with the cast afterwards, up the street at Town Hall Pub. Sickest F*cking Stories I Ever Heard Show starts just after midnight, but it's best to get there early. Buy your tickets in advance to reserve seats- you can use the discount CHEAPSKATE through the website, and get your ticket for $7 ($8.17, counting the service fee). Use the same code at the box office, and your ticket is just $8, but you're not guaranteed a seat. I'll try to save us some seats in the first couple rows. See you there!

Hey, all- It's been way too long since I scheduled a dance night, so I'm putting one together for Friday, June 20th at Trace Bar. And this one is a theme night- break out your giant hair, popped collars, and day-glo shoes. It's 80's night! We'll meet at 8:00 at Trace, where we've got the entire upstairs to ourselves (and a couple other meetups and groups I'm inviting) for 80's dancing the whole night through! We'll have some nice drink discounts at the bar, too- Miller Lite for $3 and Well Drinks for $3. And, to make thing extra special, we'll be holding a Costume contest and a Dance contest! Who's got the coolest 80's threads? Do you still have a Michael Jackson jacket? Can your hair reach Flock of Seagulls heights? Who has a piano tie? Show it off, win prizes! And let's not forget the 80's dances- who can still breakdance, cabbage patch, pop n' lock, or do the robot? Test your dancing mettle against anyone else who dares take to the dance floor. Bust a move, people. Contest prizes range from VIP tickets to NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" to tickets to a Victory Gardens mainstage show, to tix to Sickest F*cking Stories. Dance and costume contests will start around 11 PM. Come out and party, and support a good cause, while you're at it! Cover for the 80's dance night at Trace is just $5, and the proceeds go to a fundraiser for Theatre Momentum, an improv theatre company with shows opening at the Bailiwick Theater loft in August. You can meet and hang out with the cast, dance the night away with some fun people, and support live theatre, all at once. Can't beat that. Here's a Metromix blurb on Trace, for those of you who've never been. It's got a cool upstairs bar for us to hang out and dance the night away. Trace is on Clark Street, just a little north of Wrigley Field. Parking is difficult in the area, but there is a pay lot nearby. You can get there easily from the Red Line Addison stop, though. While things will officially start at 8, we'll be there the whole night, so don't worry if you are coming in a bit late. It'll be easy to find us. Hope you can all make it out! -Tony

At the request of one of our members, Jaeda, I'm changing the location of this meeting so we can have drinks, socialize, and benefit a good cause at the same time. "Yours Truly, Ms. Jaeda Raines, will be guest bartending at the Wabash Tap to raise money towards The Sankofa Center for African Dance and Culture Charitable Organization. The event will be held at Wabash Tap on June 18th, 2008 from 7pm - 10pm. There is NO COVER CHARGE for this event. (A portion of drinks sold goes to the charity so it's PAINLESS!) Come to Network, Socialize, Enjoy Great Food and Drinks, and Have a Great Time Supporting a Wonderful Cause. " The Sankofa Center for African Dance and Culture is a 501(c)3 non profit organization combining traditional African dance and music as a tool for HIV/AIDS education and community outreach. The Sankofa Center uses the dance and music of Africa's past to foster health and understanding of HIV/AIDS in the current generation in hopes of preventing the destruction of their future. The Sankofa Center's programming is two-fold: touring dance-dramas are aimed at educating margainalized villagers with little access to resources and information; and, after-school programs that target youth between the ages of 13-19+. Come celebrate the anniversary of my 39th birthday at my favorite Chicago restaurant! Let's have cocktails, and get to know as many old and new members as possible! Rivers is right on the Chicago River in the loop between Monroe and Madison, in the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Building, only a few blocks from pretty much every L line and Union Station. We will be outside on the patio, weather permitting. They have delicious drinks and fabulous food, and there's even 2-hour validated PARKING under the building (a miracle in Chicago!) I'll be there at 6:00; feel free to come any time after that, within reason. If anyone wants to have a dinner with me afterwards, I would be very happy to share my unbirthday with friends old and new. PLEASE ADVISE if you want to stay for dinner so I make the correct reservation. Rivers I'll send out my cell number closer to the date for those who RSVP yes. Hope you can make it! BTW, I'm asking for a $1 "donation" to help me pay the monthly Meetup fee; strictly optional but greatly appreciated.
