All-
It's happening again. Theatre Momentum, my improv theatre company, has two new shows that opened recently. I'd love to get a crowd out to see them. I actually directed one of the two groups, and I'm very proud of both of them. Hope you can make it out!

I'm taking tickets for the show/running lights, so I'll be up front. Tickets are just $10, if you use the discount code CHEAPSKATE, either at the box office or online (details below). Come see the company that the Trib called "a worthy alternative to what you'll find at improv mainstays like the Annoyance or IO". Afterwards, the cast will probably all be hitting a bar down the street (suggestions are welcome, of course), so hang out and mingle!

Here's the details:

Theatre Momentum Offers an Evening of Theatrical Improvisation, beginning November 5th at Oracle Theatre.

Theatre Momentum presents the fourth showcase in their ongoing series of original long-form improvisational shows. The event, featuring two performances, opens Wednesday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m. at the Oracle Theatre, 3809 N Broadway, and runs Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. through January 7, 2009. There are no shows December 24 or December 31. Tickets are $12.00/$10.00 for students and seniors. Reservations can be made by calling 773.857.3858.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at Brown Paper Tickets- https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/47385.

Developed through Theatre Momentum's Work(shop)-in-Progress program, both long-forms explore unique forms of storytelling- the overheard story, and the masks we wear and remove.

EAVESDROP, directed by Tony Rielage, tells a story in half-heard conversations, and the rich stories that can be inferred from them. Inference and extrapolation are used to involve the audience in the interpretation of the whole narrative.

POSER, directed by Angie McMahon, explores the different masks we wear with different people, how we fake knowledge, emotions, and our very personality, to fit in- and what happens when those masks slip.

"This piece was inspired by the Landford Wilson play Balm in Gilead and my previous work with the now defunct Free Associates Theater Company," says POSER director Angie McMahon. "With a strong talented cast Poser consistently brings entertaining, gripping, and often hilarious stories to light again and again."

"Theatre Momentum strives to create improvised theatre that is complex and layered," comments Theatre Momentum Artistic Director, Tony Rielage. "These shows touch on the deep, touching, funny, and dark."

EAVESDROP:
F. Tyler Burnett, Tim Dunn, Keith Ecker, David Flora, Kelsie Huff, Tahnee Lacey, Rebecca Levine, Neil O'Callaghan, Craig Rennak, Katie Wadsworth, Tony Rielage (Director)

POSER:
Katy Colloton, Anthony Ellison, David Flora, Kelsie Huff, Tahnee Lacey, John Loos, Annie Rijks, Angie McMahon (Director)

Party time, everyone!
It's been way too long since I've thrown a party at my place, so I thought I'd pull one together for Halloween. This one's a little earlier than most, true, but that just means you can party that much harder.

And this party has an excellent theme. I had a conversation with someone a while back about going to a party as "Dollar Store _____" (not gonna tell you what costume), and it struck me as an awesome theme for a Halloween party.

So, here's the scoop- this is your chance to be creative and cool, folks. All your costume items must be from a dollar store or the like. The cheaper and cheesier, the better. If you've got something in your closet already that you're gonna use, keep with the cheap costume aesthetic, because it's hilarious and fun.
I might even be able to pull together some cool prizes for a costume contest, later in the evening.

There will be booze, munchies, and music. I'm going to get a keg and make lots of Hairy Buffalo Punch (I made this last Halloween, actually). It promises to be a good time. Don't worry about bringing anything, food/drink-wise. Since this is also doubling as an excuse to fundraise for my theatre company (yep, everything's an excuse, folks), there will be a $10 cover at the door- but that's all you can drink till the booze disappears! Much better than any night at a bar, for certain.

Hope you can make it out. I'll close off RSVP's two days before, and send out my address to everyone at that time. There'll be lots of people from my theatre company and their friends - so, lots of new faces to mingle with! See you on the 25th!

Well, I called Juicy Wine to say I was going to have to cancel, and the OWNER jumped in and sweetened the deal. He offered us 5 MORE wines, so now 5 red + 5 whites + 1 sparkling, with the same food, and lowered the price to about $33 with tax & gratuity. BTW, this isn't a teeny-taste wine tasting like you get at wineries; that's why we're paying for it. Brief sommelier service and some wine tasting education is included also. If this doesn't bring out the crowds, I have to cancel Sunday afternoon, so please RSVP and pay by noon Sunday if you want to come!
(Note: If you already paid, I'll refund you the difference.)

This is a slightly upscale singles event I hope you all can come out for at "The best li'l wine bar in Chicago." I begged and whined to negotiate this reduced price for us AND a 10% discount on any bottles of wine purchased during the event!

Wine and food tasting from 6:30pm-8:30pm includes:
5 reds, 5 whites, and 1 sparkling
Seasonal Meat and Cheese platter: Soft, ripened cow’s milk cheese, semi-firm, creamy goat’s milk, and more delectable fromage.
A variety of salami from Artisan Salami. Made by Armandino Batali in Seattle, Washington. Jamon Serrano from Spain.
Garnishes consisting of membrillo (quince paste), dried figs, dried apriocots, honey, truffle salt, marcona almonds, and carmelized walnuts.
Freshly baked Red Hen baquettes sliced.
The Fine Cheese Co. extra virgin olive oil and sea salt crackers.

Sounds yummy and with the wine, should serve in lieu of a light dinner. Please feel free to invite friends; I'm hoping to get 50 people between a couple of groups but will have to cancel if we don't get a minimum of 25 by midnight on 10/17, so talk it up, kids! Hope to see you there.

Payment is due in advance, including approx. $33 event fee + $1.50 Amazon Payment fee, $34.50 total; refund policy shown below. If you've already RSVPd, please pay no later than the deadline to avid being changed to a No. If you CAN'T pay by Amazon Payments but you want to go, please send me a note, let me know how you'll pay, and we'll work something out (check, PayPal, whatever.) I have to make a large deposit for this event and just trying to protect myself! Thanks for understanding.

The Bad Dog Tavern is close to the Western Brown Line Stop in Lincoln Square. It is a great friendly place to watch the Bear's game against Philly. The food is affordable.

I'm cross-posting this because I'm going, it's going to be REALLY fun, and there are spots open. Please go to the link below for all the info and to sign up but maybe you can RSVP here just to let me know if you're going, want to carpool, etc.

Pontoon Boat Trip

I actually thought we were staying overnight because that's what the plan was when this trip was originally planned in July, but now it's a daytime cruise. However, if someone was interested in staying somewhere nearby rather than driving ALL the way home, I'd be open to looking into sharing accommodations or camping.

Hope some of you can make it!

Have you thought about seeing "The Dark Knight" but have had a hard time finding tickets?? Now's your chance!

There is a showing at the Navy Pier IMAX theater on Saturday morning at 1am. I know the time may be somewhat late, but there are lots of available seating. There's a better chance we can all sit together for this showing than at any other time.

The Navy Pier IMAX theater is accessible by public transportation, and for those who choose to drive, there are parking lots nearby, that charges $14 to $24, depending on the length of time you park. Tickets are by reservation only, and I plan to sit in the last row - Row "L." When going to the website to purchase the ticket, you have to choose the date for Friday, 8/29/08, for the 1AM showing on Saturday, 8/30/08. If you RSVP "yes," please go to the website and purchase a seat for the showing. Please email me when you've purchased the ticket online. It is $16 per ticket - http://www.imax.com/chicago

I'll send out more details on seating arrangements and contact information for those who RSVP "yes" a couple of days prior to the event.

Joy Yee's Restaurant in Chicago Chinatown is the original chain of Joy Yee's Restaurant that started out as a small business that has quickly expanded its location to UIC on Halsted Street, Naperville, and Evanston. With its electic and delectable array of bubble tea (for those who haven't tried bubble tea, you're totally missing out!), shaved ice cream, and assortment of Asian cuisine (from Japanese udon to Indian flour wrap bread), there isn't anything that anyone could not find to their liking. There are vegetarian dishes, as well as healthier options, for those who desire it.

Joy Yee's has gotten a lot of great press in the media from Metromix to Zagat. Saturday nights fill up easily, and I have seen the line/crowd wind around the block just for seats. Please RSVP by 8/21/08 by 7pm or 8pm, so I can reserve seats.

For more information on the restaurant and its menu, please go to Joy Yee's Restaurant.

I will give out my cell number a few days before the event to those who RSVP yes. I look like my picture and I will have a big "Meet Up" sign on the table. I'll be coming from work, so feel free to leave messages before 5pm if I don't pick up my phone. We can also vote as to whether we would like to eat outdoors or indoors. Parking may be hard to find, but I do believe there is a parking lot about a few blocks away on the corner of Wentworth and Cermak Avenue. For those who are interested, I have a drive way that can fit one car and I can possibly save spots in front of my house, since I live within walking distance (within 3 minutes) away.

See you all there! If there are any questions, let me know. =)

***EDITED*** It looks like this event isn't getting a good turn out. If no one RSVP's by Friday, I'm going to cancel this event. =/

Hey, everyone-
Every time I tell folks I do improv, people want me to post an event for the shows. So, here we are. Some of you won tickets to these shows at the 80's night party a few weeks back, actually.

Anyhow, I'm stage producing this show, which has been a blast to watch in rehearsals. Can't wait to see them up onstage.
I'm also stage managing, so I'll be able to meet you all there before the show, but won't be sitting with everyone. Afterwards, let's all head across the road to Joey's Brickhouse for some eats and drinks, and mingling with the cast!

This is a small venue, so if you like, you can order your tickets in advance, via the website, to guarantee your seats. If you use the discount code CHEAPSKATE when you buy tickets, you'll get $2 off the ticket price. (this discount code is good for the run of the show, too)

The show starts at 8, but let's plan on meeting at 7:30, so everyone can meet up and get seated together.

Here's the details:

PIECES and MUSIC: Theatre Momentum Offers an Evening of Theatrical Improvisation, beginning August 20 at Bailiwick Theatre Loft

Theatre Momentum presents the third showcase in their ongoing series of original long-form improvisational shows. The event, featuring two 45-minute performances, opens Wednesday, August 20 at 8:00 p.m. at the Bailiwick Arts Center Loft, 1229 W. Belmont, and runs Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. through October 8, 2008. Tickets are $12.00/$10.00 for students and seniors. Reservations can be made by calling 773.857.3858.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at Brown Paper Tickets.

Developed through Theatre Momentum's Work(shop)-in- Progress program, both long-forms explore unique forms of storytelling- broken narratives, and subtext through music.

JIGSAW, directed by Rob Kozlowski, tells a story in the style of putting together a puzzle, in pieces. By the show's end, the entire puzzle picture, the full narrative, is seen.

MIXTAPE, directed by Amanda Rountree, explores the complex subtext behind those songs chosen when one gifts someone with a mixtape, and the history and subtle meaning behind each song.

"Theatre Momentum strives to create improvised theatre that is complex and layered," commented Theatre Momentum Artistic Director, Tony Rielage. "These shows touch on the deep, touching, funny, and dark."

JIGSAW:
Abbey Londer, George Hubbard Jr., Jessica Jones, Ben Kass, Demian Krentz, Susan Steinke, Kathryn Thomas, Sammy Tamimi, Rob Kozlowski (Director)

MIXTAPE:
